Jordan Williams went from working at a bottle shop to managing director of Kollosche Prestige Agents on the Gold Coast.
Mr Williams spoke to WILLIAMS MEDIA about his top tip for newcomers in the real estate industry - do the right thing.
Do the right thing by your clients, your colleagues, your principal, administration and sales support and competing agents.
How did you start out in real estate? Have you always worked in the industry, or did you do something else previously?
I got my start in real estate back in January 2005 when I was working in my former career, hospitality.
I was doing a night shift in a bottle shop on a Tuesday night when a local real estate agent named Julie gave me a bit of a stern talking to and asked me what I was doing with my life, and said I’m wasting away in here and that I’d make a great real estate agent.
I processed her advice over the next few days and that Friday I enrolled to get my real estate license.
14 years on and I’m 50 per cent equity partner in the best prestige real estate office on the Gold Coast and we’re only just getting started.
I’m extremely grateful and proud of how far I have come.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The pressure, the discipline, the freedom, the variables that get thrown at you every day, and naturally the money.
Why else would you work seven days a week 12-18 hours a day?
7 Beverley Crescent, Broadbeach Waters for sale by Jordan Williams of Kollosche Prestige Agents as seen on Luxury ListCan you tell us about an interesting property you’ve sold?
75-77 Monaco St, Broadbeach Waters is a standout for me.
The home transacted for $9 million and at the time I felt the property was magnificent, however the new owners didn’t feel the same way and have since spent over a million dollars, and seven months improving the residence.
I must admit they’ve nailed it. The finished product is truly amazing.

What’s your advice to young people starting out in real estate?
You’re going to need to be prepared to bring a lot of energy, focus and resilience to the table.
You need to be prepared to work, to get out of your comfort zone and to forfeit your social life.
If you’re looking for instant gratification you won’t get it in this industry.
The effort you put in today, you’ll be rewarded for in three months, or sometimes even six months. But the reward will come.
You must back yourself and trust in the process, so find what works for you and stick to it.
Also, get a personal assistant. If you don’t have a PA, you are the PA.
It’s the smartest investment you’ll make, especially early on in your career.
And always do the right thing. Do the right thing by your clients, your colleagues, your principal, administration and sales support and competing agents.
Don’t do the wrong thing to make a quick buck. Think long game.

If you could change one thing about the real estate industry, what would it be?
Our industries governing body being harder on unethical real estate agents.
Clean out the unethical agents in our industry.
What’s your outlook for the property market in the Gold Coast for the next 12-18 months?
That’s a tricky one. I’m the supreme optimist so I think the market will be fine but if you read the papers and listen to the “experts,” the worlds going to end and we’re all doomed.
I focus on my market in quarterly increments and with the cash rate not moving again in August, stock levels tightening, and the days getting warmer, I feel the Gold Coast market is poised for a strong run home in 2018.
Where do you live now, and what would be your dream home if you could live anywhere in the world?
I currently live in The Oracle in Brodbeach and have done so for the last five years. Apartment living suits my busy lifestyle.
My dream home would be a Marcio Kogan designed residence on the coast of Spain.
