Jim Playsted of Knight Frank Hobart is a residential salesperson finalist in the REIA 2018 National Awards for Excellence, which are being held at Doltone House at Sydney's Jones Bay Wharf on 22 March.
Jim Playsted of Knight Frank Hobart embarked on a career in real estate after spending many years supplying machinery in the mining and construction industries.
He answered WILLIAMS MEDIA's questions about his nomination in the upcoming REIA 2018 National Awards for Excellence, and told us he lives on the east coast of Tasmania and wouldn't trade it for anywhere else in the world.
How did you start out in real estate? Have you always worked in the industry, or did you do something else previously?
I started in real estate eight years ago at age 56 after a career in the supply of mining and construction machinery.
What do you love most about your job?
Meeting people and helping to develop their new futures, putting deals together
You’re a finalist in the REIA’s upcoming National Awards for Excellence in the hotly contested residential salesperson category. What do you attribute your success to?
Excellent customer service and a systematic approach to ensuring we get maximum value for our vendors
Can you tell us about an interesting property you've sold recently, or are selling?
A c1842 sandstone homestead with English gardens, in ground pool, tennis court and functional farm buildings. What an honour it is to serve a family who have held the property for 167 years.

What’s your advice to a young person starting out in real estate?
You get out what you put in. Find a mentor, stick to them, and never ever give up. There are no short cuts to success.
If you could change one thing about the real estate profession, what would it be?
The great work the majority do is often let down by a few. I’d like the skills of agency to command more respect for the value they add.
The Tasmanian property market is booming. What’s your outlook for the next 12-18 months?
More of the same. Downsizers, baby boomers and the MONA overlay is a winning combination now the secret is out.
Where do you live now, and what would be your dream home if you could live anywhere in the world?
My dream is the Tasmanian East Coast. Unspoilt, natural beauty. I live there now.
