Iconic buildings, innovative projects and inspiring people up for national property awards.
Iconic buildings, innovative projects and inspiring people are vying for prestigious property awards, after 136 finalists across the nation were named ahead of the 2016 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards in June.
The awards program, now in its 34th year, celebrates Australia’s property development and investment industries.
According to the Property Council’s Chief Executive, Ken Morrison, the awards underscore the property industry’s enduring commitment to leading-edge practices, and shine a spotlight on an industry that touches the lives of all Australians.
“The property industry is Australia’s biggest industry and the nation’s second largest employer – the property industry employs more people than the manufacturing and mining industries combined. Our industry generates 1.1 million jobs, and builds the prosperity and strong communities our nation needs to thrive,” Mr Morrison says.
“The awards celebrate excellence across the entire spectrum of the industry – recognising everything from large-scale commercial offices through to boutique residential projects – and serve as a reminder of our industry’s essential role in building a better Australia.”
Some of the exceptional projects in the running for awards include the transformation of the ‘money box’ building at Sydney’s 50 Martin Place, the Frank Gehry-designed Dr Chau Chak Wing Building at the University of Technology Sydney, and the international terminal redevelopment at Brisbane Airport.
The world-class South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute in Adelaide, the $200 million upgrade of the Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne and the conservation project at historic Port Arthur in Tasmania have also been named finalists.
All national finalists are in the running for the industry’s most coveted prize – the Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Australian Development of the Year award.
Seven individuals have also been nominated for the du Chateau Chun Award for Future Leader of the Year.
This year marks the introduction of a new category, with the Moulis Legal Award for Diversity recognising and rewarding organisations making a long-term commitment to diversity within the property industry.
National award winners will be announced at the 2016 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards Gala Dinner, to be held in Sydney on Friday 3 June 2016.
