'All of us have the right to shelter' is a core tenet of Janelle Goulding who has joined Thrive Homes as their new general manager.
Ensuring that people have quality options for housing, when the Sydney market has become too expensive, Thrive Homes has appointed one of Australia’s foremost housing affordability experts as its new general manager.
For more than 30 years, Janelle Goulding has been committed to addressing affordable housing issues in Sydney including social housing, homelessness services, defence housing and short and long-term accommodation for victims of domestic violence.
Her career in government, not-for-profit and private sector roles to-date includes five years as CEO of City West Housing and six years as NSW general manager at AV Jennings.
A core tenet of these roles has been the belief that all of us have the right to shelter – something that Ms Goulding recognised is at the heart of Thrive Homes.
“Thrive Homes gives young families a chance to get access to a great home in Sydney that they can actually afford to buy,” said Ms Goulding.
“A quality home in Sydney shouldn’t just be something that’s available to the wealthy.
"Young adults should be able to afford the keys to a house, without having to compromise on the quality of the house and standard inclusions.
"Thrive on the other hand, is building high-quality homes people actually want to live in. They really are homes people can’t afford for a price they can.”
With a range of single and two-storey home designs Thrive Homes aim to build four-bedroom, two-bathroom homes for as little as $260,000.
Ms Goulding has joined Thrive Homes at a moment when aspiring Sydney home owners are faced with rapidly inflating prices on existing homes.
“I’ve worked on affordable housing committees and programs for years," said Ms Goulding.
" For the first time in decades, we have a NSW government that is investing in infrastructure, allowing Sydney to grow properly, and is effectively bringing outer suburbs much closer to our cities.
“Affordable housing was much less attainable when previous governments wouldn’t invest in infrastructure.
"Now, Sydney’s greenfield belt is a relatively short public transport commute to Sydney’s central business districts – making buying and living in these areas a very real option."
Thrive Homes has been awarded by both the HIA (Housing Industry Association) and the Master Builder’s Association (MBA) for affordable quality homes.
