Carme Pinós, from Barcelona, Spain, will build Naomi Milgrom's 2018 MPavilion, after the 2017 season was extended by popular demand.
The Naomi Milgrom Foundation has announced that 2018 MPavilion will be designed by internationally renowned Spanish architect and educator, Carme Pinós of Estudio Carme Pinós.
The announcement of the 2018 architect comes as the 2017 pavilion, designed by OMA / Rem Koolhaas & David Gianotten, closes, the season being extended by popular demand to close last Sunday. The 2017 program received an overwhelming public response, with more than 117,000 visitors.

Naomi Milgrom AO, founder of the Naomi Milgrom Foundation, who commissioned Carme Pinós to design MPavilion 2018, said, “Carme’s remarkable work honours the responsibility of architecture to serve a community, by creating spaces that place human experience and environment at the centre of her designs.
"Her approach to architecture, social housing and community reflects MPavilion’s ongoing desire to stimulate debate about the role of design and architecture in building creative and equitable cities and communities."
Pinós, founder of Estudio Carme Pinós, said of the commission, “It is my honor and pleasure to have this opportunity to design a new pavilion for the Naomi Milgrom Foundation.
"It is a great responsibility to create a unique place in this special park with views over Melbourne—a city to which I have deep attachments."
Pinós works as both an architect and as a teacher, all over the world. She is best known for her work on urban refurbishments, social housing, public works and furniture design.
She has recently been awarded the French Prize ARVHA – International woman architect, and the 2017 ArpaFIL Award. Pinós has also been awarded the 2016 Berkeley-Rupp Architecture Professorship and Prize for her contribution to promoting the advancement of women in architecture and her commitment to the community. She is an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and an RIBA International Fellow.

Pinós's work has been widely exhibited all over the world. The Centre Pompidou acquired the scale models of the Caixaforum Zaragoza in Spain, the Hotel Pizota in Mexico, and the Maison de l’Algérie of Paris. The model of the Cube I Tower currently belongs to the collection of New York’s MOMA.
Victoria's Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley, said, "I’m excited to see how Carme Pinós draws from human experience, environment and architecture to develop a creative space for all to enjoy.

MPavilion 2018 will open free to the public on 8 October 2018.
