While most of us are happy to ogle glossy advertisements for multi-million-dollar properties, crowdfunding puts these remarkable properties within reach.
Tom Ford has put his US$75 million Cerro Pelon Ranch on the market. Designed by well known architect Tadao Ando, the 20,000-acre property is near Santa Fe, New Mexico, and includes a landing strip, equestrian facilities, and an old-west town that has been used as a movie set.
Real esate broker Kevin Bobolsky has launched a crowd funding campaign aimed at raising enough money to buy the property and pay for some costs.
Bobolsky believes the ranch is so significant, it should be shared by many. "This incredible, inspiring place deserves to be shared by many people," he says on the crowdsourcing web site. "World class design in the middle of the jaw-dropping landscape gives way to sweeping views and once-in-a-lifetime experiences of southwestern beauty. You, your friends, and your family can experience it without having to shell out US$75million for the property."
Crowdfunders can buy a share of the ranch for just under US$100,000 (about A$130,000).
Only US$1 has been raised so far.
