Melbourne is expanding with 8000 new homes set for the area between Melton and Caroline Springs.
Melbourne's next suburb is Rockbank in the city's west, an area between Caroline Springs and Melton that is set to accommodate more than 25,000 people, according to Planning Minister Richard Wynne. The suburb, 29 kilometres away from the Melbourne CBD, will be bounded by the Western Freeway to the north, Paynes Rd to the west and Greigs Rd to the south.
Wynne announced the new suburb, which will include 8000 new houses and a town centre next to Rockbank train station over 752 hectares, on Friday. The plans for the new suburb will be available for the community to comment on. Previously, Rockbank was designated a green wedge area which Melton City Council envisaged beng home to just 1500 people.
Since 2006, Victoria has added more than 50 new suburbs through the state’s greenfield program.
