Buyers are rushing to get their property to market before Christmas.
On Saturday a record number of properties went to auction around the country as buyers rushed to take advantage of the strong market before the Christmas holiday period. More than 2,800 properties went under the hammer, 1,619 of them in Melbourne.
Melbourne achieved a 66% clearance rate, a result that was up slightly on last week's rate.
In Sydney, 1,065 properties were listed for auction. The clearance rate for the weekend was 59%, again a slight improvement on last week's 58%.
Brisbane's clearance rate was 51%, Canberra's was 58%, and the clearance rate for Adelaide was 61%.
